Have you been hearing lately about the 3D printing craze, want to get on board, but are not sure where to start? Read on to find out what you need to go from zero to making your first print.
It's really quite simple when you know how
A 3D Printer
The first thing you're going to need, believe it or not, is a 3D printer.
There are a huge number of makes and model to choose from. Ranging from printers that you build yourself from an assembly of parts (hard) down to printers you can unbox and get printing within 20 minutes.
If you're just starting out and want to spend more time printing than 'tinkering' with your printer then I highly recommend you look into a Bambu Labs Printer
Some Filament
Once you've settled on a printer - you will need to get yourself some filament. This is the material that the printer uses to create your 3D objects. You can think of it as the 'ink' that a traditional 2D printer would use.
To get started you will want to get some PLA or PLA+. A 1kg Spool will cost you anywhere between AU$20 and AU$40 - depending on the brand you go with.
There are many good brands of filament to choose from. Some of the more popular ones are:
- BambuLab
- eSun
- Sunlu
- SIDDAMENT (if you're in Australia)
Choose whatever colour takes your fancy (or several colours if you chose a multi filament attachment for your printer)
